Memphis Style is a historical design movement from the 1980's that has inspired many different designers and companies to change the way they design. For example IKEA furniture has been linked to the philosophy and design thinking of Memphis. Playful, fun, simple geometric shapes and bold primary colours are synonymous with much of IKEA's furniture. Try to identify and suggest other companies and designers with a visible connection the Memphis movement.

The Alexandra armchair was designe by Javier Mariscal in 1958. Javier is a designer from Spain, and his designs were pretty much influenced by the Memphis Design. Take the armchair as an example, it uses lots of vibrant colors such as red, orange and blue. Also, the shape of the armchair is very unique, the edge of the chair was curvy and rounded like starfish. All of these are great examples that represent the style of memphis. I think it is very comfortable to sit because the cushions looks thick.
The only thing is this design puts Ergonomics on the priority number one than other Memphis designers.

The Carlton bookcase was designed by the founder of the Memphis group, Ettore Sottsass. The book shelf used many primary colors, such as yellow, blue, red, white, and orange. The book shelf also used many geometric shapes, mainly rectangles and squares. The book shelf has a very unique look, which looks like a human standing.
The designer considered Ergonomics and made the book shelf as convenient as it can be.

One of the companies that uses the Memphis designs is B&Q. They have various furnitures and some of them have memphis designs in it.

The 'Taylor's Airport' design was designed by Paolo Feroleto in 1982. This design uses vibrant colors such as yellow and white to bring out the creative design in it. The colors go well in almost any environment.

The Rock doorstop was designed by Marc Newson in 1997. Marc was born in Sydney and later on traveled to Europe and Asia, and that was how he first knew about memphis.
This design of a doorstop shows the creativity and versatility and the bright color ways shows how memphis should be. It has a variety of color choices: white, green, brown and blue. The red star on the top allows you to put sand or water inside.

Name "Alcor Vase" designed by Ettore Sottsass in 1983. Ettore Sottsass was born in Italy and also he was the inventor of the Memphis.
This design of a vase with light shows that this one is unique and it is also contains primary colors. As I said, it looks unique that maybe some people may think it's fun and joyful.

Kristall-pedestal table was created by Delucchi Michele. I think this product is associated with Memphis movement. He used primary colors such as white, blue and yellow. Also, he used geometrical shape such as round and rectangle. In addition, it seems unique and creative that the chair and the table are attached together.
