Biomimicry is a new innovation design that studies nature(i.e. plants, animals) 's best ideas and imitates these designs and processes to solve human problems.
There is a swimsuit which is inspired by shark skin and Michael Phelps wore during 2008 Summer Olympics. It helps water pass by faster.
Biomimicry is made up of two words. Bio means life, and mimesis means imitating in Greek. The purpose of biomimicry design is solving our daily life problems by learning from nature. As animals or plants have been tested by many problems from nature, their appearances or shapes have changed into suitable forms to nature. From them, we can get ideas that can make life more convenient. E.g - There is a shelf that imitates branches of the three.
Biomimicry is the examination of nature’s shapes, textures, size, structure, and elements, and then take inspiration from it to solve human problems. In designing, it usually has to do with furniture that is inspired from the life around us in a sustainable way.
Coral lamp is a famous example of a biomimicry project. The Coral light is inspired by the corals in the oceans, it imitates how natural coral reflects rays of light through the living sea(mimics the shape and function).
Biomimicry (bios meaning life mimicry meaning to imitate) is the studying of nature (is. plants, animals) and then imitating their ideas (structure, shape, function) to create products to solve human problems. People think of biomimicry as an "innovation inspired by nature"
An example could be solar cells. They were inspired by leaves. Leaves and plants absorb sunlight to create energy for the whole plant.
Biomimicry is a way to solve humans' problems by taking great ideas from the nature. Animals, plants and microbes are examples of the nature what people can be inpired.
eg) Famous design Arne Jacobsen's EGG CHAIR. I think this is the most famous work of Jacobsen. It has a round shape like an egg, people feel comfortable on this chair because this is ergonomic and also round shape as an egg so people can sit on this comfortably.
Basically, Biomimicry is an imitation of nature in design. Biomimicry copies nature’s features, forms, patterns, and elements in order to solve human problems. The term Biomimicry has its origin from the Greek words bios which means life and to mimic.
For example, plane is a Biomimicry that copies the form and features of a bird. It looks like a bird from those wings and tails. And it mimics bird’s feature since planes use wings in order to take off.
Biomimicry is a design discipline that seeks sustainable solutions by emulating nature’s time-tested patterns and strategies. The core idea is that Nature, imaginative by necessity, has already solved many of the problems
There is a chair that is inspired by cobra. We can sit on the cobra's stomach and lean on its body for back of the chair.
biomimicry is design that studies about the nature, like animal and plants.
There is a car which imitation by a ostraction cubicus. This fish can swim 6times longer than its body per second. In 2005, the car which show up the concept of ostracion cubicus. That car is 190km faster than any general car.
Bio mimicry examines, copy, emulate and learns about nature (processes, systems and model like animal, plant, insect, element or something about nature)
An example is japanese train 'Shinkansen' which emulate about kingfisher. When this came to station, it makd a noise very much, So the designer was inspired by kingfisher which didn't splash water when it went into water. Now it decreased a lot of noise.
Biomimicry is made up of two words, bio meaning life and mimesis meaning to imitate. So biomimicry design means to design and imitate the functions or structure of living organisms;animals and plants. It starts off by the idea of designing products that does not destroy our environment, and to develop and imitate the nature to designing process, to solve the human problems around.
One example where the idea of biomimicry applied is the Mengal City, a very tall building in London. It adapted the idea of a tree, imitating how a tree looks like and its function of the trees, such as changing its functions and design according to the changes in environment around.
The word 'Biomimicry' is derived from 'bios' which means life, and 'mimesis' which means to imitate. It is a design discipline that seeks sustainable solutions of human problems by emulating nature's patterns and strategies.
The example of this could be a crawfish toothbrush holder. This toothbrush holder is inspired by the crawfish and it emulates crawfish's ability which is holding something by using its claws. Therefore, it is a biomimicry product since it imitates the shape and the function of nature.
Biomimicry is a design that imitate or emulate nature, its models, systems, processes, and elements from in order to create products and solve human problems. An example is Sharkskin. Sharkskin inspired swimsuits. Sharkskin has countless overlapping scales. Scientist consulted it to made suits. It helps water pass by faster.
EX) The example of biomimicry design is that lamp has been designed base on function of flower so people can close it when they are sleeping and open it when they study.
Re-post of the example:
For instance, a stool/table that has a shape of a leaf can be made. That product would imitate the feature of the leaf that is wide and can support objects on top of it. Vines and stems would transfer the force in different directions, which allows leaf to support heavy objects.
E.g - The shelf that imitates trees can be an example. Trees hold leaves by using their branches. The storage imitates its function and shape, so it allows people to put their items on the shelf's branches.
Biomimicry is formed with two words: 'bio' means life, and 'mimesis' means imitate. It is an application done by first studying natural models, such as natural shapes, structures, patters, strategies, and principles; then, where appropriate, apply them into designs that resolve certain problems humans face.
For example the Vetegal, a chair designed by brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. The chair and the back mimic the tendrils of vine.
Biomimicry is a new design inspired by nature. Features of nature has lots of keys to solve human problems.
For example, the idea of Velcro came from barbs on weed seeds.
Biomimicry is a design which refer to shapes or function of nature and animals. Shinkansen is the example of biomimicry because it looks like a fish that swims very fast.
Biomimicry is a word mixture of "Bio" and "mimicry". It's examination of nature, it's models, system, processes, and elements to emulate or take inspiration from order to solve human problems. shinkansen is a biomimicry example which get the idea form kingfisher.
Mr. A wants you to ask yourself.... Have you learned anything through this Biomimicry project? How can nature or biology help us as designers and the design world?
